Working Meeting Organized by the National Bank of Georgia and UNHCR
Organized by the National Bank of Georgia and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), a working meeting was held with the purpose of raising awareness of the rights of internally displaced persons and housing seekers in dealing with financial institutions.
The meeting focused on the mandate and role of the National Bank of Georgia as a regulator of the banking and financial sector, as well as on the challenges that citizens of other countries and their representatives may face in dealing with financial institutions.
The representatives of the National Bank of Georgia discussed details of the rights of financial sector consumers, including citizens of other countries, persons seeking asylum in Georgia and refugees, explaining what practices are in place and what obligations financial institutions have in dealing with them. The meeting also covered legal requirements for preventing money laundering and terrorism.
Protection of consumer rights is one of the priorities for the National Bank of Georgia. In this regard, the Central Bank of the country has already implemented a number of projects and activities. It is planned to hold similar meetings in the future.
