Reproduction

The reproductions of Lari banknotes and coins is only permitted on the territory of Georgia, if it complies with the requirements set out in "the Guideline on the reproduction of Lari banknotes and coins" approved by the 18/03/2011 N2 Resolution of the Board of the National Bank of Georgia.


The reproduction of Lari banknotes and coins is prohibited if it illustrates or/and advertises items, which may adversely affect the standing and integrity of Lari banknotes and coins or encourage counterfeiting in any form.


Tangible
Reproductions of Lari banknotes is only permitted if such reproductions meet the following requirements:

 

  • One-sided reproductions of a Lari banknote, provided that the size of the reproduction is at least 125% of both the length and width or at most 75% of both  the length and the  width of the respective original Lari banknote;
  • Two sided reproductions of a Lari banknote, provided that the size of the reproduction  is  at least 200% of both the length and width or at most 50% of both length and the  width of the respective original Lari banknote;
  • Reproductions of individual design elements of a Lari banknote for illustration of any item or picture and such elements are depicted on a background, which does not resemble a genuine banknote in color and design;
  • Reproductions made of a material clearly differs from paper and the material used for banknotes (in case the reproductions is made of precious metal, it must clearly contain the name of the issuer of such reproduction).

 

 

Intangible reproductions of Lari banknotes is permitted if they meet the following requirements:

 

  • A word SPECIMEN is printed diagonally across the reproduction and the length of this word is at least 75% of the length of the reproduction and its height is at least 15% of the width of the reproduction, and is in a non-transparent and color is contrasting with the dominant color of the banknote of the respective denomination;
  • The resolution of the electronic reproduction in its original size shall not exceed 72 dpi (dots per inch).

 

 

The reproduction of Lari coins is permitted if they meet the following requirements:

 

  • A reproduction is made on a flat surface (e.g. on a picture, drawing or any image) or it is intangible;
  • Reproduction is made of a material differing from metal, which does not resemble a metal;
  • Reproduction is made of metal without indicating denomination numeral, its size exceeds the size of a genuine coin by not less than 50% or is less than the size of a respective genuine coin by minimum 50% and its parameters (size, weight, thickness) differ from those of the coins of other denominations.

 

In any other case reproduction of Lari banknotes and coins shall be regarded as illegal and, in addition to the confiscation of such items, it will result in a fine of GEL 1,000 in the case of individuals and GEL 3,000 in the case of legal entities (Article 1535 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Georgia).

 

In case of revealing the reproductions of Lari banknotes or coins in cash payment processes, the provisions regulating the detection of counterfeit money shall be applied.
