The Volume of Money Transfers from Italy to Georgia has grown Ten-fold during the Last Year

In May of the current year the inflow of money transfers from foreign countries to Georgia was still continuing and its volume reached 80.6 million USD, which is by 10.4 million USD (14.7 percent) more than the volume of money transfers for the same month of the last year.

Traditionally, the biggest share of money transfers falls to Russia - 48.3 million USD, i.e. 60.0 percent of the total amount. Ukraine occupies the second place among the most important donors - 5.8 million USD, which makes 7.1 percent of total money transfers. It is notable that it's already two months since Ukraine passed ahead the USA in the list of seven biggest donor countries according to money transfers to Georgia. This fact can be explained by the seasonal growth of labor migration from Georgia to Ukraine. In the reporting period 5.1 million USD has been transferred from USA (i.e. 6.4 percent of the total amount).

Greece occupies the fourth place in the list of the important donors - 3.9 USD, i.e. 4.8 per cent. Italy is the fifth. During the one year (from May 31, 2007 to May 31, 2008) the volume of money transfers from Italy to Georgia has increased ten times - from 0.4 per cent to 4.6 per cent and reached 3.7 million USD (according to the statistical data of May of the last year the same indicator equaled only 0.3 mln USD). Such growth is motivated by the increase of labor migration.

 During the reporting year the volume of money transfers from Armenia has also increased significantly (35.1 times) - 2.0 million USD and this country occupied the seventh place in the list of the biggest donor countries.

According to money transfers statistics 88.0 percent of total money transfers fall to the following seven big donor countries:

It is notable, that in May of the current year 7.9 million USD has been sent from Georgia abroad, i.e. by 2.3 million USD (22.7 percent) less than in May of the year of 2007. The volume of money transfers from Georgia to Russia has decreased by 2.4 million USD and constituted 3.6 USD.

Western Union and Contact are the most popular among the fast money transfer systems (18.6 percent each of total amount) in Georgia. Next come Anelik (16.8 percent), Unistream (15.1 percent), Bistraia Pochta (6.6 percent), Money Gram (5.8 percent) and Leader (5.2 percent).

The most popular way of money transfers from Georgia is Western Union - 43.6 percent of total transfers, next come Anelik (17.4 percent), Bistraia Pochta (12.7 percent), Leader (8.0 percent), Unistream (7.6 percent) and Contact (4.4 percent).
