The NBG launches first Sustainable Finance Status Report
To account for the rising interest in sustainable finance and increase the transparency of the NBG’s actions and plans in this direction, the National Bank is launching a Sustainable Finance Status Report. The report will be published annually and will overview the existing trends, policies, and plans related to sustainable finance in Georgia.
The Sustainable Finance Status Report is composed of two parts. The first part overviews the sustainable finance-related actions and policies implemented by the NBG. It also describes the ongoing and upcoming projects in this regard. The second part reviews the sustainable finance trends in the financial sector. More specifically, it analyzes the information provided by the commercial banks in the ESG forms. The Corporate Governance Code for Commercial Banks sets the mandatory Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) disclosure requirements. 2021 was the first year commercial banks filled out the ESG forms, which are now available on the NBG’s webpage. The report also highlights the experience of Georgian companies in issuing green and sustainable bonds.
The National Bank of Georgia continues developing the Sustainable Finance Framework and is actively implementing the action plan outlined in the Sustainable Finance Roadmap.
