The National Bank Of Georgia Will Start The Realization Of A New Collector Coin On 27 July 2021

Climate change and care for the environment are at the top of the current global agenda.

The risks that the Earth is currently facing come from the climate change and it takes joint effort to overcome these. The world celebrates Earth Day every year to emphasize the importance of environmental care. The week of celebratory events includes environmental education and public awareness activities, involving the population and promoting volunteering.

The financial system is paying more and more attention to issues related with environmental and social responsibility. The National Bank has taken a number of important steps towards sustainable development over the last few years and will continue to support environmental issues in the future.

In connection with the Earth Day and to emphasize current environmental issues, the National Bank issued a 5 Lari collector coin.

The design sketch for the collector coin was selected through an open competition. The coin was designed by ONUKI Naohiko on behalf of Japan Mint. Coins with 1500 mintage were struck at the Mint Kremnica (Slovakian Mint).  The coin priced at 100 ₾ will be available for sale through the following channels: the online store of the National Bank of Georgia - https://moneymuseum.nbg.gov.ge\ from 10:00 a.m. on 27 July, 2021, also in Cash Centre of the National Bank of Georgia (located at Kakheti Highway 72, Tbilisi) and in Money Museum of the National Bank of Georgia (located at 10 Shote Rustaveli Street, Kvareli) from 30 July 2021.

A limited quantity of coins, only one per customer will be available from 27 July 2021, for 15 days   (restriction applies to all official sales channels altogether), as we would like to give the opportunity to a larger number of interested persons to purchase the product.

The central part of the obverse of the coin features an olive branch with the image of the Earth on the left, and the right side depicts the effects of the climate change, such as drought, fire, tornado and flood. The inscriptions "დედამიწის დღე", "5₾", "Thank", "Think" are inscribed. The combination of images and inscriptions on the obverse of the coin clearly shows our wish to be grateful for all that our planet gives us and think about what we can do to prevent climate change caused by global warming.

The central composition of the reverse is a set of images including Georgian ornaments in the outline of the Earth hemisphere, a sprout with green leaves, silhouettes of humans and animal and the inscription "Earth Day". The inscriptions "5 ლარი" and "2021" are also marked. Georgian ornaments and inscriptions "Georgia" and "საქართველო" are depicted on the circle.
