The National Bank of Georgia statement

The National Bank of Georgia statement

22 October, 2007
The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) is forced to respond to the recently made public statements in the media regarding the NBG, because such purposeful campaign against the NBG jeopardizes the development of the banking sector and the macroeconomic stability and negatively affects the image of the country.    We would like to state that abolishment or bankruptcy of the NBG, as one of the main attributes of Georgian statehood is impossible and such statements are unserious. Moreover, there is a plan to further strengthen the NBG as an institution and the public will be informed about this in the nearest future. Herewith, the NBG expresses its readiness to engage in professional discussion. Once again we would like to remind the society that it is impermissible to politicize the NBG’s activities and we hope that in the future by artificially damaging the reputation of the NBG will not be used as means of achieving political objectives.
