The National Bank of Georgia Reviews Financial Education Projects Implemented in Regional Schools
The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) hosted an event dedicated to World Savings Day, during which it reviewed the results and accumulated experience of financial education projects implemented in regional schools over the years. The event also featured the presentation of Finedu's latest initiative, the "Financial Education Bus."
The event was opened by Natia Turnava, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG). Tamar Makharashvili, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, also addressed the audience. The meeting was attended by representatives of the public, financial, and education sectors, as well as financial education teachers from various regions of Georgia.
"Financial education is one of the NBG's key priorities, as financially literate individuals are the foundation of a sound financial system and the country's economic well-being. In recent years, the NBG, together with its partners, has taken significant steps to promote financial education in the regions, and we will continue our efforts in this direction," stated NBG Governor Natia Turnava.
The event provided an overview of the results of regional educational projects implemented under the Finedu initiative. A panel discussion titled "From One Meeting to New Opportunities" was also held, featuring representatives of schools from various regions of Georgia.
Over the years, Finedu's projects and initiatives have achieved significant results. As part of the "Invite Finedu to the Classroom" project, implemented through the NBG's financial education platform Finedu, financial education lessons have been delivered in more than 1,200 classrooms across the country to date, reaching approximately 33,000 students.
The "Visit the NBG" project has reached more than 85 schools and over 2,200 students. In addition, more than 6,000 students have participated in various financial education competitions held over the years, while over 1,500 students have attended an innovative educational performance on financial literacy.
Another important initiative launched by Finedu several years ago focuses on strengthening teachers' capacity and engagement through specialized training. Under this initiative, more than 1,300 teachers have received training.
The event concluded with the presentation of the new "Financial Education Bus" project, which aims to improve access to financial education in schools across the regions. To implement the project, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the National Bank of Georgia, the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, the LEPL National Center for Teacher Professional Development, and partner financial institutions.
The initiative is supported by Silk Bank, Bank of Georgia, TBC Bank, Basisbank, Microbank Crystal, and Mastercard's representative office in Georgia.
Participants highlighted the importance of strengthening financial education in schools, ensuring equal access to educational opportunities for students in the regions, and continuing cooperation among the public, education, and financial sectors in this regard.
