The “Money Museum” of the National Bank of Georgia Was Opened in Kvareli
The Money Museum of the National Bank of Georgia will host the foreign and Georgian visitors in Kvareli as from now.
Along with development of infrastructure the number of tourists interested in Kakheti region has been increased sharply. Due to its ancient historical monuments and museums Kvareli became one of the most interesting destinations for the visitors. From now on the visitors will be able to familiarize with the money history and see the unique showpieces.
The Money Museum was opened by Mr. Giorgi Melashvili, Executive Director of the National Bank of Georgia and Mr. Zurab Tchiaberashvili, State representative, Governor of Kakheti Region. Children from school and teachers attended the opening of the museum. The first tour in museum was held especially for them.
“Kvareli is a place where the Great Ilia Chavchavadze was born. In addition to other patriotic affairs his name is associated with establishment of the banking activities’ tradition in Georgia. It is completely logical to open a museum which familiarizes the visitors with the banknotes and coins being in circulation in the past censures B.C. in Georgia, traditions and also the world money development. Besides this museum will foster a further popularization of region” – stated George Melashvili, Executive Director of the National Bank of Georgia.
There are numerous museums in elsewhere in Georgia, and quite a few of them display specimens of old money alongside their specific exhibits. The Money Museum founded at the National Bank of Georgia is the only one in this country that is fully dedicated to money.
The Museum's exhibits lead the onlookers through the centuries-old history of money circulation in Georgia, from the 6th century B.C. up to the present, and also show samples of foreign currency from different countries of the world.
From now on the museum will be allocated on the first floor of Tourism building in Kvareli, address: Rustaveli Str.#10. Money Museum Exhibition is open every day except Saturday and Sunday from 9 am till 6 pm. In the Money Museum, those who wish can purchase the production issued by the National Bank of Georgia. Payment can be made in cash or without cash transfer.
