
The Best Sketch for the New Commemorative Coin - “Olympic Beijing 2008” has been Revealed
Commission for defining the thematic and design of commemorative coins has revealed the best sketch for a new commemorative coin - "Olympic Beijing 2008". The author of the winner sketch is Mr. Mamuka Gongadze, the Artist-Heraldist. The National Bank of Georgia will produce gold and silver coins according to this sketch.

By the beginning of February 2008, the National Bank of Georgia announced an international competition for the creation of a sketch of a commemorative coin dedicated to the Olympic thematic. 23 sketches have been submitted to the competition commission and one of them was from the Mint of Finland.
"Georgia has longstanding and successful Olympic traditions. Therefore, the new coin will be a good commemorative gift for Georgian Olympians as well as for all the sport funs. It is expected, that a record number of sportsmen will take part in Beijing Olympics. Our wish is that the coin dedicated to the Beijing Olympics becomes popular not only in Georgia, but outside the boarders of the country too," – declared Mr. David Amaglobeli, the Acting President of the National Bank of Georgia.
