On the initiative of NBG and with the support of the Tbilisi City Council, the street and square adjacent to the NBG's Cash Center have been named in honor of Iason Lortkipanidze, the first manager of the State Bank of Georgia.

As of today, the new address of the Cash Center is 2 Iason Lortkipanidze Street, Tbilisi, Georgia (formerly 72 Kakheti Highway).

The naming ceremony was attended by Levan Abashidze, Chairman of the Tbilisi Assembly's Names and Symbols Commission, along with members of the Tbilisi Assembly (Sakrebulo) and representatives from the National Bank of Georgia.

Natia Turnava, Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, expressed her pride in commemorating Lortkipanidze's contributions to Georgia’s financial sector.

"We are proud to honor the legacy of Iason Lortkipanidze, who played a pivotal role in the development of Georgia’s financial sector and the foundation of modern Georgia. This symbolic gesture is a small yet meaningful recognition of his work. I am confident this will be welcome news for our fellow citizens," said Turnava.

Giorgi Tkemaladze, Chairman of the Tbilisi Assembly, emphasized the significance of naming the street next to the Cash Center after Lortkipanidze.

"It is a great honor for us to preserve Iason Lortkipanidze’s name for future generations by immortalizing it in this way," said Tkemaladze.

Iason Lortkipanidze served as the first manager of the State Bank of Georgia from 1919 to 1921. His contributions extend beyond the establishment of the Central Bank—he was a signatory of Georgia's Act of Independence, led the literacy society for Georgians, and played a key role in founding the Georgian University. Under his leadership, the location of Nikoloz Baratashvili's grave was discovered in Ganja. He was also the elder brother of the renowned Georgian writer, Niko Lortkipanidze.

Earlier this year, a memorial plaque honoring Iason Lortkipanidze was unveiled at 12 Anton Purtseladze Street in Tbilisi.
