Roman Gotsiridze Put Forward the Issue of Illegal Cooperation of Russian Commercial Banks with the Banking Institutions Operating Illegally in Abkhazia Before the Parliamentary Commission

On May 3, the President of the National Bank of Georgia, Roman Gotsiridze, participated in the meeting of the Temporary Parliamentary Commission for Restoring Territorial Integrity. At the meeting the issue of illegal cooperation of Russian commercial banks with the banks operating illegally in Abkhazia was discussed.Roman Gotsiridze introduced the measures carried out by the National Bank of Georgia to prevent cooperation of Russian commercial banks with so called Abkhazian banking institutions to the members of the Temporary Parliamentary Commission for Restoring Territorial Integrity.The National Bank of Georgia has already requested the FATF (Financial Action Fast, MONEVAL (Council of Europe Group on Money Laundering), EAG (Eurasian Anti-Money Laundering), the Central Bank of Russia and the Russian Financial Monitoring Service to render assistance in solving the mentioned problem. The President of the National Bank of Georgia ,Roman Gotsiridze, within the framework of his working visit to the United States of America held meetings at the Service for Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism of the US Department of the Treasury and Federal Reserve System. At present the documents to be sent to the USA Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation are being prepared.According to the President of the National Bank of Georgia, Roman Gotsiridze, raising discussions on cooperation of Russian financial Institutions with the illegal banking institutions of the self-declared Republic of Abkhazia at the international level will facilitate the settlement of the aforementioned problem.
