Roman Gotsiridze – President of the National Bank of Georgia Meets with the Iranian Delegation

26 April, 2005
On April 25, Mr. Roman Gotsiridze, President of the National Bank of Georgia, met with the representatives of the Iranian International Development Bank (Exim), visiting Georgia as part of the official visit of the vice-president of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Iranian bankers stated that the purpose of their visit is to try to deepen the economic relations between the two countries. For this purpose, the Iranian International Development Bank is ready to lend USD 20 million to Georgia to be used by Georgia at its discretion. President Gotsiridze thanked the guests for this suggestion and stated that the commercial banking system is sustainable and that they would not have trouble finding a suitable partner bank in the market able to service the credit line in consistence with international standards. If the credit is directed towards the rehabilitation of the energy sector, then the government bodies may become involved in the project. President also stated that according to the Georgian legislation, the servicing of the credit line and guarantee issues should be discussed at the commercial bank concerned. The meeting was resumed with the supposition that the Georgian party will review the desired form of the servicing of the credit line and renew the negotiations with the Iranian delegation.
