Based on the notification received from the National Bank of Georgia Central Bank of Russia withdrew the banking license from the Russian commercial bank “MakPromBank”. One of the official motivations of this decision was the “money laundering" and the breach of Russian Federation law on financing of terrorism. According to the NBG information, Georgian commercial bank “Kartuli Banki”, which has recently been revoked the license by the National Bank of Georgia, kept its accounts at “MakPromBank” for the purposes of money laundering. Georgian and Russian Banks under liquidation had the common founders. They intended to carry the money laundering channels from Baltic States to Georgia. Recently the Central Bank of Russia officially informed the National Bank of Georgia about the withdrawal of license from “MakPromBank”.   The President of the National Bank of Georgia, Roman Gotsiridze expressed his satisfaction for a quick response from the authorities of the Central Bank of Russia. “I’d like to thank the authorities of the Central Bank of Russia for their timely interference, which allowed the prevention of wrong acts of money laundering. I hope that a fruitful cooperation between the central banks of Georgia and Russia will continue in future too”, - stressed Roman Gotsiridze.   Money laundering scheme has been timely revealed and exterminated by the Financial Monitoring Service of the National Bank of Georgia. ”Kartuli Banki” has been revoked the license and a notification about the activities of “MakPromBank” has been sent to the central Bank of Russia for a further reaction. After that the Russian Bank ceased functioning, as its activities in the past had been unambiguously directed to money laundering.
