President of the National Bank of Georgia, Roman Gotsiridze, Met with Ukrainian and Georgian Pupils
20 June, 2006
The President of the National Bank of Georgia, Roman Gotsiridze, met with the Ukrainian and Georgian pupils, the winners of the competition: „What do I Know about Georgia?” and „Who Knows Ukraine Better?” announced by the International Children’s Foundation “Vunderkind” in the two countries.
At the meeting Roman Gotsiridze presented the Ukrainian and Georgian pupils with a book „Money in Georgia” issued by the National Bank of Georgia”. According to him the year of 2006 is declared as the year of Ukraine in Georgia. The friendship between these two nations has a many-century long history, they have much in common and these relationships are getting deeper. This is a vivid evidence of the fact that last year in commemoration of the friendship between the two countries the National Bank of Ukraine minted a jubilee 2 Hryvnia coin dedicated to the 300th anniversary of David Guramishvili. These coins were quite popular both in Ukraine and Georgia. The entire consignment of coins was sold out immediately upon its issuance.
Roman Gotsiridze stressed and welcomed the fact that the winners of the competition demonstrated profound knowledge of the history and culture of Georgia and Ukraine. „I think that the information on the centuries-old history of money circulation in Georgia provided to them in the Money Museum of the National Bank of Georgia will deepen their knowledge” - Gotsiridze said.
The President of the National Bank of Georgia congratulated the Ukrainian pupils on the victory of the Ukrainian football team in the World Cup and gave them a symbolic present of a jubilee coin dedicated to the 25th anniversary of winning by the Football Club Dinamo Tbilisi the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1981.
The quiz-competition for the Georgian and Ukrainian secondary school pupils was announced in February and competed at end of May.
According to the terms of the competition, the children should have demonstrated their knowledge in the fields of history, geography and culture of Georgia and Ukraine.
At the beginning of June the Georgian winners of the competition were invited to Kiev.
The quiz-competition was organized by the International Children’s Foundation „Vunderkind” and the youth newspaper „Nergi” from Georgia and by the Ukraine’s Academy of Spiritual Unity of the peoples of the world and children’s magazine „Vulik” (Bee).
