Drawing up and adoption of the strategic document on the development of banking system are aimed at creating a banking sector, which offers a universal package of services for customers. The measures specified in the strategic document will be implemented by all its parameters and in four years the banking system of Georgia will become one of the most advanced banking systems in the region”.
The Vice-President of the National Bank of Georgia David Amaglobeli introduced the details of the strategic document to the participants of the presentation.
The President of the Association of Banks of Georgia Zurab Gvasalia and the IMF Resident Representative in Georgia Robert Christiansen expressed their views on it.
According to Zurab Gvasalia “The principles and tendencies described in the strategy are also shared by the representatives of the banking system”.
Robert Christiansen declared that “Georgia’s banking system has been developing rapidly as a result of the firm and purposeful policy implemented by the National Bank of Georgia. The existence of the concrete action plan to further develop and modernize the banking system of Georgia is very important. The International Monetary Fund gives a positive evaluation to the strategic document drawn up for the banking sector.”
The General Director of the “TBC Bank” Vakhtang Butskhrikidze positively assessed the strategic document on the development of banking system and noted: “According to the document the main goal of the medium-term outlook is to eliminate gradually the existing problems, strengthen the stability and efficiency of the banking system under the competitive market environment and achieve the dynamic growth of the banking sector thus increasing its role in the country’s economy”.
The Council of the National Bank of Georgia has recently adopted Georgia’s Banking System Development Strategy for the years of 2006-2009.
Georgia’s banking system will be protected from any kind of negative macroeconomic shocks, both internal and external, if all tendencies and parameters set forth in the strategic document are fulfilled. As a result the public trust in the banking sector will increase. It will promote the accumulation of savings of the population in banks and their channeling into investments.
