Polish Mint to Produce Georgian Commemoration Coin

Roman Gotsiridze, President of the National Bank of Georgia, met with Iazec Iakubcak, deputy Director General for Trade and Marketing of the Polish Mint. At the initiative of the Polish Mint, 20 thousand commemoration coins are planned to be minted, featuring Georgian traditions and customs. The project is entirely funded by the Polish Mint. The National Bank will get 2 Euros as a commission for each coin sold, and 100 coins free of charge.President Gotsiridze welcomed this initiative of the Polish side. He stated that a tender will be announced on the new commemoration coin soon. President thinks that the coins should feature the traditional Georgian theme. The offer of the Polish Mint will contribute to the propaganda of the Georgian culture overseas. Besides, the project is beneficial also from the financial side. The National Bank and the Polish Mint have a tradition of cooperation. In relation to the 2006 World Soccer Championship, the agreement on minting 50 thousand commemoration coins has been formalized, one side of which features the five-cross Georgian flag. Five thousand coins are minted today, for which the Bank received the 10 thousand-dollar commission and 200 coins free of charge. The commemoration coins are spread all over the world, and a whole consignment has already been sold, as the Polish Mint representatives said. The Polish Mint is implementing similar projects in many countries. The Mint produces Polish Zloty but besides, the specialists prepare about 12 types of collection themes per year, which cause a lot of interest in the numismatic communities.
