NBG Vice Governor Ekaterine Mikabadze Takes Part in the BARTA Award Ceremony
Ekaterine Mikabadze, Vice Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, participated in the Best Annual Report and Transparency Award (BARTA) awarding ceremony, organized with the support of the World Bank and the Accounting Reform's Stakeholders' Foundation (RSF).
In her speech, Ekaterine Mikabadze focused on establishing a high standard of transparency in Georgia, to which BARTA has a special contribution.
"The National Bank of Georgia has been supporting the competition since its inception. A high standard of transparency is being established in Georgia as a result of joint efforts, to which BARTA makes a special contribution. The high degree of transparency of companies creates the basis of trust in the capital market. A company's financial statements and management reports that give a proper picture of the company's visions, goals, risk assessment and internal policy, boost the confidence of investors and consumers," said Ekaterine Mikabadze.
In her speech, the NBG Vice Governor focused on the Corporate Governance Code of Public Securities Issuers approved by the National Bank of Georgia, which entered into force on January 1, 2022 that covers, among other things, issues related to green, social and sustainable principles. Importantly, best sustainability report was one of the nominations of the BARTA competition.
"The awarding of BARTA is a step forward in the sustainable development of the country. In today's world, the consideration of environmental and social responsibility issues by the financial system, as one of the contributing factors of sustainable development, is gaining special relevance. I am glad that our work was followed by related activity of the market participants: 7 issues of ESG bonds were realized in Georgia in the current year, with GEL 760 million in volume," said the NBG Vice Governor.
The awarding ceremony of the winners was held on December 15, 2023, at the Biltmore Tbilisi hotel. The jury of the competition was composed, among others, of the staff of the Securities Market Supervision Department of the National Bank of Georgia. Commercial banks and microfinance institutions under the supervision of the National Bank of Georgia, as well as accountable enterprises listed on the Georgian Stock Exchange, participated in the competition.
