NBG Launches Educational Activities for Immigrants and their Family Members

16 November, 2023

How to manage the money earned in immigration more effectively - training for emigrants and their family members will be held, organized by the National Bank of Georgia and Finedu, its financial education portal (www.finedu.gov.ge), with the involvement of Bank of Georgia and the support of the Caucasus International University.

The training informs immigrants and their family members about the topics relevant and important for them, such as: correctly and effectively managing money earned in immigration to achieve financial independence and generate additional income, properly investing funds, recognizing unreliable and risky financial offers, inherent risks and opportunities.

The training will be conducted by representatives of different departments of the National Bank of Georgia and Bank of Georgia. Those interested can find detailed information and register for training at the following link.

International practice shows that financial education activities help immigrants to make wiser financial decisions and more effectively use the funds earned in immigration.

Studies prove that the majority of Georgian immigrants send money/savings to their families at least once a month. Also, although family members are completely dependent on remittances, they tend to have little financial planning. Most of the immigrants do not have a bank account opened either in Georgia or in the country where they live. Finally, in many cases, the situation of immigrant families does not improve for years.

Taking care of enhancing financial education is one of the key priorities of the NBG. For this purpose, a number of important steps have been taken in the past years within the framework of the National Strategy of Financial Education. In 2023, the National Strategy for Financial Education document defines several new target segments, including immigrants.

The National Bank of Georgia is ready to receive opinions, suggestions, comments and recommendations from parties interested in raising the financial education of immigrants. The above can be shared at the following e-mail: info@finedu.gov.ge.
