National Bank of Georgia Money Committee will Consider the Issue of the Possible Depiction of Kakutsa Cholokashvili Portrait on the Georgian Monetary Unit in the Nearest Future

On November 21-22 the remains of Kakutsa Cholokashvili, the statesman and the national hero of Gerogia will be carried over from Le Ville estate to Georgia and buried at the Pantheon of Writers and Public Figures of Georgia on Mount Mtatsminda.
The Money Committee of the National Bank of Georgia intends to discus the question of a possible issue of monetary unit with a portrait of Kaikhosro (Kakutsa) Cholokashvili in the nearest future.
Kakutsa, the same Kaikhosro Cholokashvili was born in 1888 in Mataani, Kakheti. He graduated from the Tbilisi Georgian Gymnasia.
After achieving the independence of Georgia, Kakutsa Cholokashvili started his service in the Georgian army. He took part in all battles our country had to stand by that period.
In 1921, after the annexation and occupation of Georgia by the Red Army of Russia, the government of the independent Georgia fled abroad. Kakutsa Cholokashvili stayed in Georgia and decided to take up arms for the independence of the country. He formed the first group of fighters in Kakheti – “Georgia’s Sworn Sons“. In June 1922 Cholokashvili entered the battle with the Red Army for the first time, which gave the onset to Georgia’s long-lasting struggle for the independence.
In August 29, 1924 the insurrection launched under the leadership of Kakutsa Cholokashvili against the Bolshevik regime sustained a defeat.. Kakutsa Cholokashvili and his brothers-in-arms had to leave their home country. Kakutsa Cholokashvili died in July 27, 1930 in Paris. Initially he was buried at Sent Antuan cemetery and later his remains were reintermented to the Le Ville common grave cemetery of Georgians.
