Natia Turnava, Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, met with Aleksandre Dzneladze, President of the Bankers’ Association, leaders of commercial banks, and members of the Association.

The meeting focused on current processes in the financial sector of Georgia, upcoming novelties and current challenges.

"This is one of the big associations that unites multiple financial institutions and practically all banks operating in Georgia. Such meetings are very important for us to better understand the challenges our banking sector is facing. This week we will have a meeting of the Financial Stability Committee, where we will discuss various issues, including increasing the maturity of consumer loans. In this regard, we wanted to hear the opinions of commercial banks in advance. Our banking system is quite robust, low-risk and resilient to different shocks. However, in the light of increased geopolitical risks, we want to make sure once again that banks are ready for any external shocks to deal with," said Natia Turnava.

According to Aleksandre Dzneladze, President of the Bankers’ Association, the partners discussed current and future projects. "It was an important meeting where we received specific answers. We continue to work intensively. We agreed that another meeting will be held, including regarding capital buffers and other topical issues."

"Despite the fact that the NBG is the regulator of the industry, we still share common goals with the NBG - to minimize underlying risks, external shocks and develop our banking system, which is already sustainable. We agreed that we will meet many times in the future to discuss timely issues for the banking sector", - said Nikoloz Geguchadze, General Director of Halyk Bank after the meeting.

Before the meeting with the Bankers’ Association, Acting Governor of the NBG had already met with the representatives of the Business Association.
