Natia Turnava Meets with IMF Mission

Governor of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), Natia Turnava, held a meeting with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, led by Alejandro Hajdenberg.


During the meeting, Governor Turnava presented the current state of the country's monetary policy, as well as macroeconomic and financial stability developments. She emphasized that the National Bank of Georgia remains committed to the current monetary policy framework, which ensures price stability in the country.


The IMF mission visit is conducted under Article IV of the IMF’s Articles of Agreement, which provides for regular consultations with member countries. The mission officially began its work in Georgia today.


The goal of the ongoing mission is to review the country’s macroeconomic environment, fiscal and monetary policies.

 

Vice Governors of the National Bank of Georgia—Ekaterine Mikabadze, Ekaterine Galdava, and Nino Jeladze—also participated in the meeting, along with IMF Resident Representative in Georgia, Andrew Jewell, and NBG department heads.


In the coming days, the IMF mission will hold technical meetings with departments responsible for macroeconomics and statistics, financial stability, financial markets, specialized risks, and other areas.


At the end of the visit, the IMF delegation will hold a wrap-up meeting with Governor Turnava and representatives of Georgia’s economic ministries.
