Within the framework of the 2026 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington, D.C., Natia Turnava, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), and Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance, held a meeting with Bo Li, Deputy Managing Director of the IMF.

The Georgian delegation presented the country's economic development indicators to the IMF Deputy Managing Director. The dialogue addressed the measures implemented to maintain a sustainable fiscal position and ensure price stability. Furthermore, it was emphasized that the recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East significantly elevate global uncertainty. In the medium term, the inflation rate will largely depend on the progression of geopolitical events and the duration of the ongoing conflicts in the region.

It was further noted that to effectively navigate such challenges, it is crucial for the country to be equipped with sufficient buffers. In this context, special attention was directed toward the policy of accumulating international reserves, which remains a key priority for the NBG. As a result of this policy, the level of international reserves has exceeded the minimum adequacy threshold of 100%.

The parties also discussed the monetary policy of the NBG, noting that future monetary policy decisions will be contingent upon the unfolding scenarios of the current geopolitical landscape.

For his part, IMF Deputy Managing Director Bo Li commended the NBG's implementation of a new, scenario-based approach to monetary policy, which has proven particularly vital amid the current geopolitical environment and economic challenges. This approach has reinforced monetary policy communication and enhanced the transparency of the risk management and decision-making processes.

The meeting was also attended by: Vice Governors of the National Bank of Georgia: Ekaterine Mikabadze, Ekaterine Galdava, and Nino Jeladze, Deputy Ministers of Finance: Giorgi Kakauridze and Ekaterine Guntsadze and Ambassador of Georgia to the United States, Tamar Taliashvili.
