Natia Turnava Holds Meeting with Alejandro Hajdenberg, New IMF Mission Chief

Natia Turnava, The Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, held an introductory meeting with Alejandro Hajdenberg, the new Mission Chief of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The meeting focused on Georgia's strong macroeconomic performance, commending the NBG's policies for achieving price and financial stability. Discussions highlighted low inflation, robust capital buffers in the financial sector, and healthy asset quality. The meeting also explored the impressive rates of economic growth and the factors behind this expansion.


Additionally, the importance of cooperation with the IMF was a key topic, with a review of the details for activating an IMF program in Georgia, as highlighted by Natia Turnava.


"We had a productive discussion with the new Chief of the IMF Mission," Natia Turnava noted after the meeting. "We presented Georgia's strong macroeconomic situation, our inflation-targeting framework, the policy of strengthening foreign exchange buffers, and the ongoing structural reforms. I'm pleased that the IMF mission positively evaluated the NBG's policies and the steps we've taken."


Alejandro Hajdenberg echoed the positive sentiment, commending Georgia's strong macroeconomic performance. He highlighted the country's low inflation, improved current account balance, and the successful implementation of reforms that have driven progress.


"Georgia's transformation is truly impressive," remarked Alejandro Hajdenberg. "Since my last visit in 2005, the country has undergone a radical change. There's a renewed vibrancy evident everywhere, and I'm delighted to witness this progress."


The meeting was also attended by Ekaterine Mikabadze and Ekaterine Galdava, Vice Governors of the National Bank of Georgia; Andrew Jewell, Resident Representative of the IMF in Georgia; Vakhtang Sikharulishvili, Head of the Banking Supervision Department of the NBG; and Shalva Mkhatrishvili, Head of the Macroeconomics and Statistics Department.
