Natia Turnava: Georgia Has All Prerequisites to Become a Regional Fintech Hub in the Middle Corridor
Natia Turnava, Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, introduced the achievements of the Georgian financial technology industry to the audience of the world's largest fintech festival in Singapore.
The National Bank of Georgia participated in the Singapore Fintech Festival for the first time this year and had its own exhibition stand, where Bank of Georgia and Fave, the Georgian fintech startup, were represented together with the NBG as co-participants.
Georgia’s key message was Financial technologies and the development impetus of the Middle Corridor.
Natia Turnava noted that Georgia has all prerequisites to develop as a regional fintech hub in the Middle Corridor.
"After the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, we are now enjoying the opportunity to talk about the development of the fintech industry in Georgia on a global scale, here at the Singapore Fintech Festival. We are glad at the opportunity to have presented our plans to the world's largest fintech companies, investors and venture funds. Georgia is already a hub for logistics, transport, energy, communications, and tourism. We have an ambition to become a fintech hub as well, and we are equipped with all prerequisites to achieve this goal. Our next steps are developing the fintech industry in the country and offering the best environment to the interested global investors," noted Natia Turnava.
Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia introduced to the audience of the Singapore Fintech Festival the steps that the NBG has already taken for fintech and interested investors. She noted that, first of all, these are transparent and flexible regulations for fintech companies, that will let them skip bureaucratic procedures, and allow them to evolve in a safe and stable environment.
The annual Singapore FinTech Festival is the world's largest fintech exhibition held at Singapore EXPO, the country's largest conference and exhibition space. This year’s Festival hosts 140 countries of the world, more than 60 thousand participants and over 10,000 organizations. Keynote speakers - Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank and Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, discussed the future of digital currency, noting that about 60% of countries in the world are working on designing digital currencies.
