In March 2009 the volume of money transfers from abroad constituted 60.6 million USD, which is 19.8 million USD or 24.6 percent less than the same figure for March 2008. The decrease of overall volume of remittances is mainly due to their decrease from Russia by 18.0 million USD or 36.0 percent. The volume of remittances also decreased for Armenia (1.2 million USD or 63.5 percent decrease), Ukraine (0.8 million USD or 15.1 percent decrease), Spain (0.5 million USD or 25.2 percent decrease), as well as for some other countries.

87.5 percent of total money transfers from abroad fall on those seven big donor countries, from which the volume of such transfers exceeded 1 million USD in March. It is noteworthy that in March of last year share of these 7 countries constituted 87.1 percent of the total volume of money transfers.

It is notable, that in March 2009 6.5 million USD were transferred from Georgia, while in March 2008 this figure amounted to 8.1 million USD. The volume of money transfers from Georgia decreased for Russia (by 0.9 million USD or 21.8 percent), Uzbekistan (by 0.2 million USD or 87.1 percent), Greece (by 0.1 million USD or 51.6 percent), as well as for some other countries. 
In the reporting month the most popular among the fast money transfer systems for sending money to Georgia were: Western Union (24.7 percent of total amount), Anelic (13.1 percent), Contact (12.6 percent), Unistream (12.6 percent), Money Gram (9.2 percent), Ria (5.6 percent), Быстрая почта (4.7 percent), Leader (4.1 percent), Intel Express (4.1 percent).
For money transfer from Georgia most popular in March were Western Union (46.9 percent), Anelik (20.3 percent), Unistream (7.9 percent), Быстрая почта (6.5 percent), Leader (4.2 percent), Contact (3.8 percent), Money Gram (3.5 percent).
