Leszek Balcerovizc Evaluates the “Rose Revolution” as an Event of European Importance

Within the framework of his visit the President of the National Bank of Poland, Mr. Leszek Balcerovizc has already met with the President of the National Bank of Georgia, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia and the Government members.
Mr. Leszek Balcerovizc visited Georgia for the first time after the “Rose Revolution”. He often visited Georgia in the rank of an Advisor to the former President of Georgia, Edward Shevardnadze in the past. “I am glad, that due to the invitation of the President of Georgia I have the possibility to get acquainted with the current processes in the banking system of Georgia. The “Rose Revolution”, which took part in Georgia should be assessed as an important event not only for Poland, but for the whole Europe as well.” – stated Leszek Balcerovizc.
By the assessment of Mr. Leszek Balcerovizc, there is a considerable progress in the reforms of fiscal sphere, tax system liberalization, combating corruption and privatization process. Monetary situation and the Lari exchange rate are stable. Public bodies should improve the regulation processes of economic sectors.
In the context of this visit it is also planned to organize a seminar at Borjomi government residence. Mr. Balcerowicz will give a report on the “Lessons of postcommunist transition”. The Borjomi seminar will be attended by the representatives of self-governing institutions of Samtskhe-Javakheti region, as well as by the representatives of local business structures. The President of the National Bank of Poland will get acquainted with the infrastructure of Borjomi as a health-resort and the prospects of its future development.
The business visit of the President of the National Bank of Poland will end on November 19.
