International Youth Day Competition: NBG Hosts Final Meeting
The National Bank of Georgia hosted the finalists of the competition Youngsters for Schoolchildren dedicated to the International Youth Day today.
Initiated by the NBG and FinEdu, the financial education portal, the competition lasted for a month.
The purpose of the competition was to encourage the involvement and interest the young generation in the financial education issues and to achieve greater coverage of these concepts in school curricula. Young people aged 18 to 25 presented their own ideas for teaching financial education. A total of 60 works were submitted for the competition, of which the jury acknowledged 12 finalists. They were given the floor at today’s event to present their competitive ideas.
The jury announced 5 winners based on the criteria stipulated by the terms of the competition. In addition, the National Bank of Georgia nominated three additional candidates for a 3-month internship with NBG’s Financial Education Department.
The Competition was supported by: the NBG, FinEdu Financial Education Portal FinEdu.gov.ge, Bank of Georgia JSC, TBC Bank JSC, Credo Bank JSC, Basisbank JSC, Micro Business Capital Microfinance Institution, Crystal financial inclusion organization and Caucasus International University.
"Financial education of young people is one of the important priorities for the National Bank of Georgia. This year marks the second occasion of us joining the celebration of the International Youth Day by holding a competition of innovative ideas and projects, which will boost young people’s interest in financial education and help spread the knowledge. Thinking about financial education will help young people in making responsible financial decisions in the future, while the ideas presented for the competition can be used in designing financial education projects for students", said Maya Markarashvili, Head of NBG’s Financial Education Department.
The United Nations General Assembly announced August 12 as International Youth Day in 1999. This day is marked around the world to discuss young people’s problems, ideas and initiatives.
