International Monetary Fund Mission in Georgia

International Monetary Fund Mission visited National Bank of Georgia on October 4. The Mission held meetings with representatives of the National Bank of Georgia, National Statistics Office of Georgia and Ministry of Finance.

The goal of the Mission is to assess economic and financial statistics system (National Statistics Office of Georgia, Ministry of Finance and National Bank of Georgia); in particular to assess the state the IMF data quality standard compliance. The IMF representatives will study national accounts, price statistics, fiscal and monetary statistics and practice of tax balance and the quality of their compliance with the internationally recognized standards.

Based on the Mission outcomes a report will be prepared to be published on the IMF official website. The report will assess statistical system of Georgia, special recommendations will be developed.

“This report will be extremely important. The last assessment was done in 2003, since than major reforms were implemented in production of statistics. The field was considerably refined and improved and we hope that it will be reflected in the report showing the production of statistics improved compared to 2003”-said Archil Mestvirishvili, the vice president of the National Bank.

International Monetary Fund Mission will stay in Georgia till October 17.
