HSBC Obtains Banking License for Georgia
President of the NBG Mr. Roman Gotsiridze bestowed banking license to Mr. Steven Bennett, Director General of HSBC Bank Georgia JSC.
The National Bank reviewed and accepted the license application of HSBC within the time limit envisaged by the law. The Supervisory Capital of the Bank in the amount of USD 10 million was already transferred to the respective account. Currently, the building of the headquarters of the Bank is being finalized on Rustaveli Avenue, Tbilisi. The Bank will start serving the clients in November. President Gotsiridze welcomed the HSBC to Georgia.
“The fact that the world’s largest financial holding is in Georgia points to the increasing investor interest in Georgia. Foreign investments are especially large in the banking sector, which is a precondition to stronger competition and better services in this area”, president said.
Mr. Steven Bennett, Director General of HSBC Bank Georgia JSC expressed his content about the fact that their license application “was reviewed in a high professional, timely and scrupulous manner, which will make the Bank more confident to commence its activity in Georgia”, Mr. Bennett said. “We have been observing the developments in Georgia and especially the progress achieved as a result of structural reforms and improvement of business climate overall, Over the last three years, Georgia achieved significant economic growth. We plan to open a high-class international bank in Tbilisi at this crucial stage of the country’s development.
