Georgian President Approves Natia Turnava as NBG Governor
Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has approved the nomination of Natia Turnava, put forward by the National Bank of Georgia's Board, for the position of NBG Governor.
The NBG Board reached the decision to nominate Natia Turnava as a candidate for the NBG Governor unanimously during a meeting held today.
Prior to her appointment, she had served as First Vice-Governor and Acting Governor since June 2023. She has been a member of the Board of the National Bank of Georgia since June 2022.
An economist by profession, she holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Tbilisi State University and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Cumbria, UK. She has also completed training at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, the Joint Vienna Institute (JVI) and other institutions. She has been a lecturer at several higher education institutions in Tbilisi.
Through the years, Natia Turnava has held high-level positions in both the public and private sectors. She served as the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, having previously been the First Deputy Minister. She was also the Deputy Executive Director of the State Partnership Fund and the General Director and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Georgian International Energy Corporation Ltd.
Notably, Natia Turnava made history by becoming the first woman to serve as Governor of the National Bank of Georgia.
