Georgia Marks the Fourteenth Anniversary of World Savings Day Celebration

31 October, 2025

At the initiative of the National Bank of Georgia’s (NBG) educational platform http://www.finedu.gov.ge Finedu and with the involvement of representatives from the financial sector, the support of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, as well as hundreds of schools, Georgia once again joined the global celebration of World Savings Day.

This year’s observance of World Savings Day coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Georgian lari. Accordingly, the campaign’s flagship project, “Invite Finedu to Your Classroom,” was launched on October 2 the day marking the lari’s designation as the sole legal tender and continued throughout October with a range of diverse educational activities.

As part of the World Savings Day information campaign, employees of the National Bank and commercial banks visited students from grades V–XII across the country. Through game-based learning formats, they conducted engaging and informative open lessons for more than 5,700 students within one of the most popular and well-loved initiatives among teachers and pupils “Invite Finedu to Your Classroom.”

This year, schools were also visited by the First Vice Governor of the NBG, Ekaterine Mikabadze, and Teimuraz Khomeriki, a member of the NBG’s Board.

For the first time, a pilot activity was introduced under which the children of NBG employees were given the opportunity to take on the role of Finedu Ambassadors. Within this initiative, nine ambassadors held interactive, game-based lessons tailored to their peers at their respective schools.

Visits within the “Invite Finedu to Your Classroom” project also took place in 21 regional schools that had recently won the NBG’s competition “Finedu Corner in the School Library.”

Given the strong interest and demand from teachers, starting October 31, schools will continue to have the opportunity to conduct open lessons throughout November.

The celebration of World Savings Day in Georgia now has a 14-year history. Globally, the initiative dates back to 1924, when it was established in Milan, Italy, with the aim of encouraging saving and raising public awareness about its benefits.

The goal of the NBG and its educational platform Finedu is to promote awareness and encourage saving, with a particular focus on students and young people. Best practices show that discussing the benefits of saving and developing such habits at an early age is especially effective. The Georgian symbol of Savings Day is “Grovia,” the ant.

Enhancing financial literacy remains one of the National Bank’s key priorities, as it represents a vital prerequisite for improving both individual and national financial well-being.
