Financial Monitoring Service of Georgia Participates in MONEYVAL Plenary Meeting

The 17th Plenary Meeting of MONEYVAL was held in Strasbourg from May 30 to June 3, with the participation of EC, FATF, international financial institutions and respective services of 28 countries, together with the representatives of the Georgian Financial Monitoring Service. According to Nicholas Geguchadze, Head of the Georgian Financial Monitoring Service, the reports of various countries were presented at the Meeting, including the Progress Report of Georgia on Anti-money Laundering Activities. The report accentuated the positive changes in the area, described the new ways of cooperation and stressed the necessity to fulfill the commitments of the state, especially those related to the harmonization of the Criminal Proceedings Code with the Strasbourg Convention on Money Laundering, and Investigation, Removal and Confiscation of the Income Acquired through Crime” (Georgia was integrated in February of 2004).According to Nicholas Geguchadze, the draft changes in the Criminal Proceedings Code are submitted to the Parliament and are expected to be approved shortly.
