Enhancing Virtual Asset Regulation and Supervision:  NBG Hosts OSCE and National Bank of Moldova

Representatives from the Office of the Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA) and the National Bank of Moldova visited the National Bank of Georgia. During the visit, they met with Natia Turnava, the Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia.

The purpose of the meeting was to review the progress and achievements made in developing a supervisory framework for virtual asset providers, as part of the cooperation between the OSCE and the National Bank of Georgia.

Natia Turnava expressed appreciation for the OSCE's support, highlighting its crucial support in advancing the capabilities of the National Bank of Georgia to build AML/CFT regulatory and supervisory frameworks around Virtual Assets and Virtual Asset Services. “We appreciate the OSCE's ongoing commitment to support us on this journey," said Natia Turnava, “Over the course of this period, the National Bank of Georgia has not only gained expertise but has also shared knowledge and experience with other jurisdictions within the OSCE region, facilitating cross-border collaboration and coordination in virtual asset regulatory and supervisory approaches," she added.

OSCE experts commended the cooperation between the National Bank of Georgia and the OSCE, particularly in managing money laundering risks related to virtual asset service providers.

"We are delighted to see the tangible outcomes achieved through exemplary collaboration between the National Bank of Georgia, and the OSCE to mitigate the money laundering risks of virtual assets. We are committed to continuing our support to build the capacities in this regard," said Vera Maria Strobachova Budway, representative from the Office of the Coordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities (OCEEA).

Future cooperation plans were discussed during the meeting, and representatives from the National Bank of Georgia expressed their willingness to share their experience in regulating and supervising virtual asset services with their counterparts from Moldova as part of ongoing collaboration.
