Ekaterine Mikabadze Participates in IOSCO Annual Meeting

Ekaterine Mikabadze, First Vice Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, attended the 50th Annual Meeting of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) in Doha, Qatar.


During the event, Ekaterine Mikabadze engaged with representatives from the IOSCO European Regional Committee (ERC) and the Growth and Emerging Markets Committee (GEMC). Additionally, she participated in sessions organized by the Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MMoU) Monitoring Group, the Diversity Support Network, and the Sustainability Reporting Standards Implementation Network, where the National Bank of Georgia holds representation.


Key discussions during the meetings included IOSCO's Online Safety Guide for Retail Investors. Participants also explored new risks, market development trends in public and private capital markets, advancements in fintech, and initiatives aimed at enhancing awareness. These committee sessions provide jurisdictions with opportunities to exchange experiences, identify best practices, and explore potential areas for collaboration.


David Abesadze, Head of the Securities Market Supervision Department of the National Bank of Georgia, also attended the IOSCO annual meeting.


The National Bank of Georgia achieved full membership status in IOSCO in 2021. Currently, 133 supervisory authorities worldwide are full members of IOSCO. The organization's primary objectives include protecting investors, ensuring market transparency, and supporting financial stability by mitigating systemic risks. Notably, within IOSCO, the National Bank of Georgia is an active member of the European Regional Committee (ERC) and the Growth and Emerging Markets Committee (GEMC). In 2021, the National Bank of Georgia also joined the IOSCO Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding on Information Exchange.
