The First Vice Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, Ekaterine Mikabadze, participated in a panel discussion titled “Beyond Compliance: Enhancing the Quality of Corporate Reporting in Governance and Sustainability”, held within the framework of the 2025 Best Annual Report and Transparency Award (BARTA) ceremony.

During her remarks, Ekaterine Mikabadze focused on the practical outcomes of the implementation of the Corporate Governance Code for public securities issuers, noting that the first year of the Code’s application largely represented an adaptation phase.

She further stated that in 2024-2025, issuers demonstrated a more thoughtful and proactive approach to implementing the Corporate Governance Code, which represents a positive signal from a supervisory perspective.

“The Corporate Governance Code has created a significant incentive for issuers to improve the quality of annual governance reports, particularly the corporate governance component, and to disclose more structured and detailed information. At the same time, the Code has encouraged issuers to reassess their governance frameworks, to better understand the best practices envisaged by the Code, and, where full compliance is not yet feasible, to present well-reasoned alternative or transitional solutions,” Ekaterine Mikabadze noted.

At the seventh Best Annual Report and Transparency Award (BARTA) ceremony, the winners of the 2025 competition were identified across three different categories.

The BARTA Award aims to encourage companies to adopt best practices, thereby contributing to the development of a more transparent and competitive business environment.

BARTA is a multi-institutional initiative that seeks to promote transparency and high-quality reporting standards among companies and, since 2019, has been supporting the strengthening of corporate reporting quality and the culture of transparency in Georgia.
