During her visit to Korea, Ekaterine Galdava, Vice Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, held a meeting with representatives of the Bank of Korea.

Within the framework of the bilateral cooperation agreement between the National Bank of Georgia and the Bank of Korea, the working meeting at the Bank of Korea focused on exploring new areas of cooperation and discussing interoperability initiatives in the field of payments.

During the meeting, representatives of the Bank of Korea presented a regional-scale payment system interoperability initiative, which envisions not only cooperation between Georgia and Korea, but also the potential involvement of other countries. The aim of the initiative is to increase compatibility between payment systems and simplify international money transfers.

At the meeting, Ekaterine Galdava emphasized that Georgia’s payment and settlement infrastructure is actively developing: the modernization of the real-time gross settlement (RTGS) system and the introduction of an Instant Payments System (IPS) are currently underway, supporting the technological transformation of the country’s payments ecosystem.

“The regional interoperability vision initiated by the Bank of Korea creates new opportunities for both bilateral and multilateral cooperation. This is an important step towards strengthening Georgia’s role as an active participant in regional financial connectivity,” she stated.

The partnership between the National Bank of Georgia and the Bank of Korea aims to support the modernization of payment systems, the exchange of knowledge and global best practices, and the advancement of Georgia’s financial system integration into international frameworks.

The meeting at the Bank of Korea was also attended by Natalia Chkhoidze, Head of the Payment Systems Department of the National Bank of Georgia, along with representatives of the payment systems team.
