Deposits in Lari Grew by 66 million within Nine Months of 2005

Deposit liabilities of banks grew by GEL 225.5 million (25.2 %) and amounted to GEL 1121.4 million within nine months of 2005. During the same period deposits in national currency grew by GEL 66.1 million, mainly due to the increase of individuals’ balances by 76.7 %.
In September, compared to August, deposit liabilities grew by GEL 39 million, of which deposits denominated in national currency grew by GEL 11.2 million and foreign deposits by USD 14.9 (GEL 27.8 million). 71.2 % of the growth is caused by the increase of foreign currency deposits of individuals.
In the reporting period current accounts within the structure of deposit liabilities grew by GEL 36.2 million and amounted to GEL 238.8 million and time deposits in national currency increased by GEL 30 million and equaled GEL 57.4 million. Growth of time deposits as well as that of the current deposits of individuals in the currency was conditioned by the increase of the volume of accounts in energy, transport and communication spheres.
In September of the current year, compared to last September deposits in national currency grew 1.7 times, of which time deposits grew 2.7 times. The structure of the deposits in national currency is analogous to that of the previous period and 83.2 % of this amount falls on legal entities.
Within three quarters of the current year deposits in foreign currency grew by USD 95.5 million (26.2 %) and amounted to USD 460. 4 (1) million (GEL 825.2 million) by the end of September. Unlike the deposits in Lari, 67.3 % of foreign deposits attracted by banks belongs to individuals. Besides, during the reporting period the largest growth fell on time deposits in foreign currency and amounted to USD 74.9 million.
In September, compared to August, the bank deposit dolarization decreased by 0.1 percentage point based upon the growth rate of foreign and national currency deposits and as of September 30 it equaled 73.6 %.
