Total volume of deposits in the country’s banking sector (including term deposits and current accounts of non-financial and households sectors, including payable interest) decreased by 0.3 percent or 15.0 million GEL compared with the March 1, 2011, and exceeded 4.8 billion GEL by April 1, 2011. In March, compared to the previous month, the volume of transferable deposits of non-financial and households’ sectors increased by 32.5 million GEL (1.7 percent) and term deposits of same sectors decreased by 14.7 million GEL (0.5 percent).

The dollarization ratio of deposits during the past month has not been changed and remained at 72.3 percent level as of April 1, 2011.

The annual average weighted interest rate on term deposits constituted 8.8 percent. In particular, the interest rate for national currency denominated deposits was 11.9 percent and the interest rate for foreign currency denominated deposits 8.2 percent.

The share of US dollar in the total volume of foreign currency denominated deposits equals to 72.6 percent and the share of Euro equals to 18.8 percent.
