Current Tendencies of Bank Deposits
Total volume of deposits in the country’s banking sector (including term deposits and current accounts of non-financial and households sectors, including payable interest) decreased by 1.3 percent or 63.3 million GEL compared with the May 1, 2011, and constituted 4.9 billion GEL by June 1, 2011. In May, compared to the previous month, the volume of transferable deposits of non-financial sector decreased by 124.1 million GEL (6.9 percent), while term deposits of non-financial and households’ sectors increased by 55.5 million GEL (1.9 percent).
The dollarization ratio of deposits constituted 69.1 percent by June 1, 2011. Compared with the May 1, 2011 it increased by 1.1 percentage points.
The annual average weighted interest rate on term deposits constituted 8.7 percent. In particular, the interest rate for national currency denominated deposits was 11.7 percent and the interest rate for foreign currency denominated deposits 8.3 percent.
The share of US dollar in the total volume of foreign currency denominated deposits equals to 73.6 percent and the share of Euro equals to 18.7 percent.
