Current Tendencies of Bank Deposits
Total volume of deposits in the country’s banking sector (including term deposits and current accounts of non-financial and households sectors, including payable interest) increased by 5.3 percent or 265.4 million GEL compared with the August 1, 2011, and reached 5.3 billion GEL by September 1, 2011. In August, compared to the previous month, the volume of transferable deposits of non-financial and households’ sectors increased by 227.7 million GEL (11.9 percent) and term deposits of same sectors increased by 34.9 million GEL (1.2 percent).
The dollarization ratio of deposits constituted 67.4 percent by September 1, 2011. Compared with the August 1, 2011 it decreased by 0.3 percentage points.
The annual average weighted interest rate onterm deposits constituted 8.7 percent. In particular, the interest rate for national currency denominated deposits was 11.6 percent and the interest rate for foreign currency denominated deposits 8.4 percent.
The share of US dollar in the total volume of foreign currency denominated deposits equals to 74.5 percent and the share of Euro equals to 18.9 percent.
