Current Condition of Bank Deposits
Non-bank deposits (current accounts and term deposits) in the country’s banking sector constituted 2.8 billion GEL by April 1, 2009, which is 6.4 percent less than the comparable figure for the same period of 2008. Nevertheless foreign currency denominated deposits grew by 15.3 percent, while the volume of national currency denominated deposits decreased by 40.5 percent.
The dollarization ratio of deposits amounted to 75.3 percent by April 1, 2009. The average weighted interest rate for all deposits equals to 9.7 percent, in particular the interest rate for national currency denominated deposits is 11.3 percent and the interest rate for foreign currency denominated deposits is 9.1 percent.
The share of US dollar in the total volume of foreign currency denominated deposits equals to 75.1 percent and the share of Euro equals to 24.4 percent
