
Current Condition of Bank Deposits
Non-bank deposits (current accounts and term deposits) in the country’s banking sector constituted 2.6 billion GEL by June 1, 2009, which is 1.4 percent more than the comparable figure for May 1, 2009.
The dollarization ratio of deposits amounted to 73.9 percent by June 1, 2009. The average weighted interest rate for all deposits equals to 10.2 percent, in particular the interest rate for national currency denominated deposits is 10.7 percent and the interest rate for foreign currency denominated deposits is 10.1 percent.
The share of US dollar in the total volume of foreign currency denominated deposits equals to 76.4 percent and the share of Euro equals to 23.0 percent.
