Current Condition of Bank Deposits
Current accounts and term deposits in the country’s banking sector (excluding interbank and government deposits) exceeded 2.6 billion GEL by July 1, 2009, which is 2.3 percent more than the comparable figure for June 1, 2009.
The dollarization ratio of deposits amounted to 73.4 percent by July 1, 2009. The annual average weighted interest rate for all deposits equals to 9.9 percent, in particular the interest rate for national currency denominated deposits is 11.4 percent and the interest rate for foreign currency denominated deposits is 9.7 percent.
The share of US dollar in the total volume of foreign currency denominated deposits equals to 76.4 percent and the share of Euro equals to 23.0 percent.
