Consumer Rights Week
The first international consumer rights protection week is being held in Georgia on March 13-17, under the auspices of the National Competition Agency, GNERC, the Communications Commission, and the National Bank of Georgia, the State Insurance Supervision Service and the National Food Agency.
The regulatory agencies will discuss the consumer rights reforms implemented, underlying challenges and international experiences. The event will feature meetings with customers, representatives of the business sector and students.
Papuna Lezhava, Vice Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, noted in his speech that the NBG, as the country's financial sector regulator, prioritizes protecting the rights of consumers of the financial sector of Georgia. That is why, back in 2011, the NBG set up the consumer rights protection department, with the goal to protect the rights of consumers in the financial sector and to monitor the implementation of current legal requirements for the sector.
"On the initiative of the National Bank of Georgia, the financial sector of Georgia has been celebrating Consumer Rights Day with various events starting in 2021. We hope that the traditional, annual celebration of this date will help the consumers of the financial sector to be better aware of their rights," said Papuna Lezhava.
Representatives of the Parliament, diplomatic corps, business, non-governmental and academic sectors take part in the Consumer Rights Week.
The purpose of the events is to protect consumer rights and raise their awareness.
