Balance of Payments of Georgia (II Quarter 2021)

Balance of Payments statistic is compiled according to the methodology provided by the IMF's "Balance of Payments Manual, Fifth edition".

 

In the second quarter of 2021, the current account deficit totaled 383.3 million USD (1.3 billion GEL). The trade of goods and income account make negative contribution to current account, while services account and current transfers - positive. In the second quarter of 2021 current account deficit decreased by 8.4 percent annually and current account deficit to GDP from -11.8 percent to -8.0 percent.

 

Balance of goods is the major contributor to the current account. Trade of goods deficit increased by 33.7 percent annually and amounted to 819.2 million USD (2.7 billion GEL) in the second quarter. Among them exports increased by 49.0 percent and imports by 42.9 percent annually.

 

In the second quarter, partially recovered travel export reached 246.1 million USD (817.7 million GEL), that is 28.0 percent of the corresponding period of 2019.

 

Net income account totaled -245.8 million USD (-816.6 million GEL) in the second quarter of 2021. Compensation of employees, the positive component of income account increased slightly (by 0.7 percent) and negative component, investment income, was up by 36.2 percent.

 

The current transfers balance is positive. Credit of current transfers increased by 56.1 percent annually totaling 563.3 million USD (1.9 billion GEL). The private sectors transfers was up by 58.0 percent to reach 526.3 million USD (1.8 billion GEL). Government transfers has also increased.

 

Net foreign direct investments amounted to 148.0 million USD (491.6 million GEL) accounting for 3.1 percent of GDP.
