Agreement Between the National Bank of Georgia and Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency of Turkey on Cooperation in the Area of Banking Supervision has been Signed

Agreement between the National Bank of Georgia and Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency of Turkey on Cooperation in the area of Banking Supervision has been signed.  For this purpose the Turkish  representative delegation  from the Turkish Agency headed by the members of the Agency  Supervisory Board Mr. Yusuf Tuna and Mustafa  Ekim  paid visit to  Tbilisi.    The Agreement will enable the supervision services of Georgia and Turkey to exchange information on financial institutions and financial markets of their countries.  This Agreement also complies with the recommendations of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision on the principles of performing a consolidated and comprehensive supervision and cooperation between the banking supervisory authorities.   During the meeting Yusuf Tuna, the Member of the Supervisory Board of the Agency declared with satisfaction, that the Agreement signed between Georgia and Turkey will facilitate the reliability and stable functioning of financial institutions of two countries. As he mentioned, Turkey’s banking system in Georgia is represented by the “Ziraat Bank”, a big Turkish bank. He called Georgian investors upon oncoming interest in the banking sphere of Turkey.   “Banking sector of Georgia has been developing dynamically during the last three years and Georgian banks have already started entering the neighboring countries’ markets from the current year. It is not excluded, that Georgian banks show their interest in Turkish banking sector in the nearest future as Turkey is Georgia’s main trade partner. At the same time Turkey has a very developed banking sector and it will be very interesting and beneficial for the Supervision Department of the National Bank of Georgia to get familiar with Turkey’s experience in this sphere”, – declared Mr. David Amaglobeli, the Acting President of the National Bank of Georgia.   During the meeting the idea of exchange of the experience between the supervision services of two countries was expressed, which envisages the improvement of the professional skills of the employees of this sphere.
