On February 19, 2024, Natia Turnava, Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, participated in the signing of a significant agreement between the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Credo Bank. The agreement involves a 65 million GEL (approximately 25 million USD) loan aimed at supporting micro, small, and medium-sized businesses in agricultural production, processing and trade. This initiative, with a special focus on empowering female entrepreneurs, aims to enhance financial access across the country, particularly in rural regions.

"The role of the financial sector in promoting long-term and sustainable economic growth is crucial, and Credo Bank will make a great contribution to this process by supporting micro, small, and medium-sized businesses. The fact that the Asian Development Bank issues bonds denominated in local currency is further proof of its support for Georgia's capital markets as an advanced driver of development," noted Natia Turnava.

Natia Turnava commended ADB's commitment to Georgia's sustainable and inclusive development, noting that ADB's investment programs being implemented across the country have already positively impacted 1.5 million citizens, improving their livability and quality of life.

"Over the past two years, ADB has invested in the issuance of green, gender, and sustainability-related bonds. These bonds were issued by Georgian companies operating in various sectors of the economy. Notably, among them were the first gender and green bonds denominated in GEL, which were issued last year. The lari facility agreement directly aligns with the NBG's goal of promoting sustainable finance and redirecting funds to projects with environmental and social objectives," noted Natia Turnava.

Natia Turnava also emphasized the support for the rural population and women entrepreneurs within the framework of the agreement between ADB and Credo Bank, noting that this focus on female borrowers and rural areas is a strong demonstration of the support for social projects throughout Georgia. According to her, female entrepreneurs continue to face challenges in accessing credit resources.

"Initiatives supporting women's financial access and literacy can help eliminate some of these barriers," Natia Turnava added.
