Vice Governor of the National Bank of Georgia Meets with National Bank of Poland Representatives
Ekaterine Galdava, Vice Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, met with representatives from the National Bank of Poland. The meeting focused on projects supported by the National Bank of Poland and developed for the National Bank of Georgia.
Special attention was given to the 'twinning' program focused on payment systems and services, designed to strengthen the National Bank of Georgia’s capacity in supervision and payment oversight. Through this program, Georgia adopted and implemented a legislative framework aligned with EU directives, enabling the NBG to apply for Georgia’s membership in the Single European Payments Area (SEPA).
During the meeting, representatives of the National Bank of Poland briefed their Georgian counterparts on the current state of Poland’s payment systems and shared updates on their ongoing development. Officials from the International Relations and Payment Systems Departments also expressed their willingness to continue supporting and collaborating with the National Bank of Georgia.
As part of the official visit, Vice Governor Galdava, along with representatives from the NBG’s Payment Systems and Project Management Departments, participated in the European Association of Clearing Houses (EACHA) forum. The event brought together payment sector representatives from 29 European countries.
Key topics at the forum included the development and implementation of instant payment systems, the challenges they present, and future prospects. Special emphasis was placed on the use of artificial intelligence in modern monitoring systems, particularly in enhancing fraud detection and prevention.
Notably, the National Bank of Georgia has been a member of the European Association of Clearing Houses (EACHA) since 2023. The association serves as a platform for discussing ongoing developments, strategic challenges, and key initiatives within the EU payment ecosystem, while also formulating relevant policy recommendations. EACHA organizes an annual forum and holds biannual plenary sessions, regularly attended by Natalia Chkoidze, Head of the NBG Payment Systems Department.
