The National Bank of Georgia shares experience with Afghan colleagues
For the purpose of familiarization with the reforms and innovative systems introduced in the National Bank of Georgia, the representatives of the Central Bank of Afghanistan visited the National Bank on April 10-11. Zalmei Sherzad – General Director of Financial Sector Development Project of the Central Bank of Afghanistan and Aziz Baraki – Director of Settlement Systems Department, visited the National Bank of Georgia on the recommendation of the World Bank. The guests will receive information from Georgian colleagues on introduction of payment and securities system.
This is the third foreign bank, visiting the National Bank of Georgia as the successful example on the recommendation of the World Bank. Earlier the National Bank of Georgia hosted central banks of Papua New Guinea and Ethiopia. Their visit was also based on the recommendation of the World Bank.
Georgia is one of the first countries, where payment and securities hybrid system, developed by American Company “Montran” was introduced successfully. The representatives of the Central Bank of Afghanistan will also share the recommendations and advices of Georgian colleagues. The guests have already met the representatives of the relevant departments of the National Bank and attended the demonstration of various components of the system. The mentioned fact will further promote the National Bank of Georgia in the international banking world and stress the effectiveness of the banking reforms implemented in our country.
“The National Bank of Georgia is already on the list of the institutions, named by the World Bank as successful example from the point of view of implementation of innovative and progressive projects. Afghan colleagues are visiting the National Bank just on the recommendation of the World Bank to familiarize with the reforms and systems, introduced recently by us – these are advances technology system, which allow financial institutions to performs transfers quickly and safely”, stated Executive Director of the National Bank Mr. Giorgi Melashvili.
“On behalf of the Central Bank of Afghanistan, I would like to thank the National Bank of Georgia for giving the opportunity to familiarize with new payment systems, introduced by the National Bank of Georgia. We, two representatives of the Central Bank of Afghanistan, visited the National Bank of Georgia with the assistance and on the recommendation of the World Bank and familiarized with the real time gross settlement (RTGS). The World Bank implements two projects in Afghanistan, which will strengthen the Central Bank of Afghanistan and financial sector of Afghanistan in general; the National Bank of Georgia has shared its experience in this issue, and during the last two days we visited different departments and familiarized with the system in details” – stated General Director of Financial Sector Development Project of the Central Bank of Afghanistan Zalmei Sherzad.
