The National Bank of Georgia Plans to Issue a Series of Brochures On Banking

Presentation of the brochure on „The Basic Principles of Banking Supervision“ was held at the National Bank of Georgia.
The Head of the Public Relations Department Giorgi Kalandaze made the presentation. According to him „With this brochure the National Bank of Georgia starts issuing a series of brochures on the functions and activities of the National Bank of Georgia. Each brochure will cover theoretical and practical aspects of a particular banking sphere“.
The brochure on Banking Supervision gives a brief description of the generally accepted principles established in the international practice of supervision of commercial banks by which the National Bank of Georgia is guided in the course of exercising banking supervision.
The brochure reviews the key issues of banking supervision. It is intended for the staff of the National Bank of Georgia and the representatives of different structures related to it as well as for the persons interested in the topics of banking supervision.
This brochure sets out general views about the aims of banking supervision, implementation of international standards and methodologies in the basic lines of activities licensed for commercial banks and also indicates the need for focusing attention on these issues. Although, the important fact that national supervision regimes inevitably vary according to countries’ history, legal and cultural environment, as well as the specific structure and range of activities of their banking industries is stressed herein. The readers interested in the brochure will also familiarize themselves with the economic normatives and limits set for commercial banks.
